1741 Chocolate Pastilles

We have created some immensely moorish versions of our historically spiced chocolates. Based on the flavours of our 1741 Hot Chocolate, these individual, bite sized, chocolates are made with white, milk and dark chocolate, flavoured with Long Pepper to add a hint of hot floral spice, with the warm citrus flavour of Cardamom, & Cinnamon.

Each box contains a total of 15 handmade pastilles.

The earliest European encounter with chocolate is probably in the late 1400s with Columbus’ voyages to the ‘New World’ and he is said to have brought back cacao beans as a gift to King Ferdinand of Aragon. Chocolate was originally taken as a drink, but by 1674 it is recorded as being sold as solid ‘pastilles’ intended for eating. This choice of name may relate to the perceived medicinal qualities of chocolate.
