This sweet mix of spices is based on Bartolomeo Scappi’s 1570 cook book: Opera dell'arte del Cucinare. It is his spetie communi, or common spices, which were used in a multitude of sweet & savoury dishes, such as for trout & octopus, as well as sweet dishes. It is particularly delicious on apples or ice cream, but can also be used on savoury dishes such as grilled chicken.
